Achievements of Bulgarian Residential Energy Efficiency Credit Line

To date, the REECL facility committed to 136 energy efficiency projects for the total loan amount of €25.3 million.

The financed projects are saving 49,104 MWh per year – enough energy to heat water for two billion cups of tea or enough to drive a car over 73 million kilometres.

The REECL supported projects generate the reduction of 11,147 tonnes of CO 2 emissions per year, which is equivalent to the amount of CO 2 annually absorbed by a forest of 412 839 trees.

The borrowers who successfully implemented their energy saving projects received the total of €891,725 of investment incentives, provided by the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund.

The majority of investments targeted installation of the energy efficient windows, thermal insulation of houses, measures related to improvement of the central heating utilization.

As for the renewable energy applications for residential purposes, the leader in quantity and volume of loans were the heat pump systems, followed by the biomass stoves and boilers, as well as solar water heating.

Such profitable residential investments not only stimulate people to improve their quality of life, but nurture the culture of wise and careful attitude to environment and its resources.

The EBRD through REECL supports the sustainable financing and implementation of sustainable energy projects by the residential sector. Together, the residential, private, and public sectors can make a change in the energy consumption patterns and contribute to environmental protection.
