Energy savings in Romanian vegetable preserves company
As part of its energy efficiency programme, the company decided to install a new autoclave for canned vegetables sterilizing.
The company addressed RoSEFF for financing of this project.
The RoSEFF team performed the analysis of the proposed technology, its potential of energy savings, financial-technical parameters and profitability of the project.
The €85,500 investment allowed the company to increase its production capacity by 52%, namely from 5.3 million to 8 million cans per year, and decrease the specific energy consumption by 34%. The energy savings arise from the fact that a new autoclave operates alongside the existing one, using more efficiently the existing steam boiler, which was previously oversized for the need of a single autoclave. Now the boiler operates much closer to its optimal design efficiency, providing steam for two autoclaves.
This project allowed the local producer to be more energy and cost efficient, sustain its business and continue employing the local people. Last, but not least, the project generated the CO2 emissions savings of 158 tonnes per year, which is a substantial input to mitigation of the negative effect of human activity on cimate.
The success of this project convinced the company to implement also a second RoSEFF project in 2016, in the frame of which they bought new process and handling equipment.
