Case Study

Energy efficient grain processing in Romania

Agrosami is a producer and wholesaler of grain and seeds in Timis county, Romania, established in 2004.

To decrease the energy consumption and increase the production capacity, the company decided to invest in new equipment.
The company addressed RoSEFF for financing, while the RoSEFF team supported the company with analysis of the proposed technology, the potential of energy savings and financial-technical parameters of the project.
The project comprised replacement of inefficient diesel-powered grain treatment and sorting facility with electricity powered unit with increased production capacity.
The €325,000 investment allowed the company to almost double increase the sorting and treatment capacity up to 1,000 tons per year, while lowering the primary energy consumption by 96%, namely from 414 to 17 kWh per tonne of production.
This project demonstrates that investments in energy efficiency are usually coupled with other benefits, such as production increase and process optimization. Therefore, it is worth checking the energy saving potential of all such investment measures, in order to check if they can bring additional cash-flow, hence, income, from energy consumption decrease.
This way, RoSEFF supports the sustainable financing and implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects by the private sector. Together, the private, residential, and public sectors can make a change in the energy consumption patterns and environmental protection.
