Case Study

New colouring production line brings electricity savings to a machinery producer

JSC Moldagrotehnica is the largest agricultural machinery producer in Moldova. Established in 1944, it offers a wide range of products: plows, seeders, trailers, harvesting machines, as well as biomass and pellet boilers.

To decrease its energy consumption and increase the products' quality, the company decided to invest in equipment modernization and addressed MoSEFF for financing.

The MoSEFF team supported the company with analysis of the proposed technologies, the potential of energy savings, their financial-technical parameters and profitability.

The project included replacement of an old colouring line in the metal and machinery workshop.

The €150,000 investment allowed Moldagrotehnica to decrease its electricity consumption by 59 per cent per year, which means into substantial cost savings. The investment will be repaid out of energy savings in just 2.4 years, turning the future cash-flows into company's income for the years to follow. The company also reduced its CO2 emissions by 89 tonnes per year, making its input to mitigation of the negative effect of the human activity on climate.

In addition, Moldagrotehnica could improve its production to comply with the European environmental standards – a topical issue for Moldovan businesses.

This project demonstrates that energy savings are possible in all types of sectors and production processes. Therefore, it is worth checking the energy saving potential when considering expansion investments. Very often, such investment may be the most profitable.

This way, the EBRD through MoSEFF supports implementation of sustainable energy projects by the private sector. Together, the private, residential, and public sectors can make a change in the energy consumption patterns and contribute to the environmental protection.
