Case Study

Energy efficient production of paper napkins, Bulgaria

Gamma Commerce Ltd is a large company producing and trading paper, napkins, tissues and other paper products.

The company applied for BEERECL financing to invest in main production line upgrade, improve the production process and decrease the energy costs. The project included replacement of old machines with new automated and energy efficient production line.

The BEERECL team performed the project analysis, primarily the potential of energy savings, technical-financial parameters, as well as the environmental aspects to make sure the company complies with the environmental standards and requirements.

The €161,700 investment allowed Gamma Commerce to decrease its energy and operation costs by €30,000 per year. This means the investment will pay off from the savings in just five years. For the years to follow these savings will become company's income.

In addition, the project led to the increased production, improved quality of products and generated the decrease of 142 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, making its valuable input to mitigation of the negative effect of human activity on climate.

This project proves once again that investments in energy efficiency are very profitable and may lead to other additional benefits and enhanced company's standing.

This way, the EBRD through BEERECL supports implementation of sustainable energy projects by the private sector. Together, the private, residential and public sectors can make a change in the energy consumption patterns and contribute to environmental protection.
