Pharmaceutical company in FYR Macedonia invests in better working conditions for its employees

Alkaloid AD Skopje manufactures medicine, cosmetics, chemical products and processes botanical raw materials since nearly eight decades. The company has around 1,250 employees in the country and 350 in subsidiaries and representative offices abroad, among others in Serbia, Montenegro, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, the Russian Federation and the USA. Being the leader in the region, the company maintains high production and environmental standards.
To meet the energy consumption standards and good working conditions, Alkaloid AD Skopje decided to retrofit its manufacturing site constructed in 1970 and applied to WebSEFF for the loan.
The project included thermal insulation of walls, replacement and insulation of roof and installation of energy efficient windows.
The WebSEFF team performed the project analysis, assessed its technical-economic parameters and risks to make sure the investment leads to sufficient energy savings and reduction of the CO2 emissions.
The €200,000 investment allowed the company to decrease its energy bill by €44,739 per year, leading to a fast repayment of investment in less than five years. The energy savings will eventually become company’s profit upon repayment of the investment.
Even more important project result is that the working conditions were significantly improved, contributing to the company’s positive image and relations with the main asset of Alkaloid AD Skopje – its employees.
This project proves once again that the energy and costs' savings may occur in all types of sectors and technologies, making it worth to explore such possibilities with the help of in-house or outsourced expertise.
