Case Study

Paperback company invests in energy efficiency of a production building, Bulgaria

A paperback producing company in Bulgaria providing printing, plastic covering, fold up and finishing services, planned to reduce its electricity consumption with the goal to increase its margins and stay competitive on the market.
In line with the set objective, the company addressed BEECIFF for the loan for such investment measures.
The project included thermal insulation of walls and roof, replacement of existing wooden frames with the PVC, switch of the heating system from electricity to natural gas with installation of a new gas boiler, replacement of lighting with energy efficient bulbs.
The company benefitted from the BEECIFF's pre-approved high performance technologies in the online Technology Selector. The listed technologies meet the high energy efficiency standards and help borrowers with the choice of suitable equipment and materials leading to energy savings and smooth project implementation.
The €110,546 investment allowed the company to reduce its energy, operation and maintenance costs by €22,309 per year. This means that the investment can be repaid out of savings in less than five years, turning the future cash-flows into an income for the company. 95 per cent of cost savings are generated by the reduced energy consumption.
This project proves once again that investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy are very profitable and may lead to other additional benefits, like increased quality and quantity of production, better environment and working conditions, more efficient processes and improved company’s image.
This way, the EBRD through BEECIFF supports implementation of sustainable energy projects by the private sector. Together, the private, residential and public sectors can make a change in the energy consumption patterns and contribute to environmental protection.
