Case Study

Ukrainian wall paper factory saves energy

Koryukivska Paper Factory is a large producer of high quality wallpaper under the brand “Slavic wallpaper”. The company sells around 25 per cent of its products within Ukraine and exports the rest to the nearby countries and Europe. It needs to ensure the highest quality and competitivness of its production.
The company applied to UKEEP to undertake an energy efficiency investment, namely installation of thermal equipment for exhaust air purification through heat recuperation.

The UKEEP team assisted the company with a project assessment to ensure the sufficient level of energy savings.

The project consisted of installation of the heat recuperation system, air mains and injection system, a thermal oil boiler and a separator.

The UKEEP investment of $1 million saved more than 1.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per year, which account for $450,000 annually according to the gas price of the implementation year. With the gas prices continuing to increase, the investment will be even more profitable.

The investment will also yield very positive environmental benefits, decreasing the company’s carbon monoxide and nitrous oxide emissions by 60 per cent and 30 per cent, respectively. The project shows clearly that energy efficiency combines economic and environmental benefits into one lucrative package.

The EBRD through UKEEP supports the sustainable financing of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures by the private enterprises. Together, the private, public and residential sector can change the energy consumption patterns and contribute to the environmental protection.
